Banjo Corporation

Brief Description:

Banjo Corporation's journey began in 1959 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, when Jack Canine, fueled by a passion for solving problems with high-quality products, established Terra-Knife from his home garage. This small supply company initially provided fertilizer knives to farmers across the United States. As the agricultural industry grew and the demand for new, innovative products rose, Mr. Canine and his team responded by introducing additional products, including ball valves and cam lever couplings, to the Terra-Knife line. This expansion led to the company being renamed Terra-Products to better reflect its broadening offerings.

In keeping with Mr. Canine's enduring entrepreneurial spirit, the engineering and manufacturing of new products continued over the years, allowing the company to serve new markets, including a wide range of industrial applications. A personal hobby and his love for the banjo, combined with the distinctive shape of the handle on one of the company's key products, the ball valve, inspired the company's eventual renaming to Banjo Corporation. It was also during this period that the iconic "Original Yellow Handle" was introduced, a feature still well-known in the marketplace today.

A significant strategic development occurred in 2006 when Banjo Corporation joined the IDEX Fluid & Metering Technologies Division. This integration served to strengthen and complement IDEX's global leadership in delivering complete fluidics solutions to both Agricultural and Industrial sectors. Today, with a rich history spanning 66 years, Banjo is a world-class producer of an extensive range of mechanical and electrical valves, fittings, and self-priming centrifugal pumps, shipping its products for agricultural and diverse industrial applications to customers in every corner of the globe.

Banjo's commitment to excellence is evident in its world-class production capabilities. The company utilizes an array of 36 plastic injection-molding presses, numerous sophisticated machining and assembly cells, and an optimized logistics system that empowers its production and shipping operations. With a capacity of up to 17,000 valves per day, an over 98% first-pass yield, and part specification tolerances maintained at one-ten thousandth of an inch, along with typical 3-day lead times, numerous large OEM customers entrust Banjo with their business, confident in receiving the highest quality products, delivered on time.

This manufacturing prowess is underpinned by extensive quality and support systems. Guided by the philosophy that "you’re only as good as your last shipment," Banjo implements rigorous process controls. These include inbound material inspections, multiple finished goods inspections, daily management processes to rapidly isolate potential issues and assign countermeasures, and monthly Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) to identify opportunities for enhancing operations. A team of in-house technical specialists is always ready to take necessary action to ensure product integrity and customer satisfaction.

Customer-driven innovation has been a hallmark of Banjo Corporation since its founder, Jack Canine, designed a superior knife for applying anhydrous ammonia more than six decades ago. This innovative spirit continues today, with a portfolio boasting thousands of products, many of which have been developed directly from the specific needs and insights of customers. Notable innovations include quick-change manifold systems that enhance ease-of-use and versatility, patented Dry-Mate® dry disconnects engineered to dramatically reduce spillage, an electric valve product line tailored to OEM specifications, and hundreds of other product concepts and extensions developed in tandem with valued customers.
