With a rich history spanning 58 years, Cifarelli S.p.A. was founded in 1967 by Raffaele Cifarelli and his wife, Rita, against the backdrop of Italy's economic boom. The couple established their craft company in a 250-square-meter warehouse in Voghera, where Raffaele, a diesel engine designer, began producing shoulder-carried mist sprayers under the “Nuvola” brand, initially fitted with German Jlo or Sachs engines. From the very beginning, a desire to innovate and "do something different" became a constant of the Cifarelli company culture. The company immediately looked abroad, with its first export invoice dated April 4, 1968, to the Fischer company in Vevey, Switzerland—a firm that remains a Cifarelli distributor to this day. During these intense early years, Gianfranco Cifarelli joined his brother to manage the company's sales area, and key innovations like the filling pump, which allowed the tank to be filled without removing the machine from the operator's shoulders, were developed.

As the business grew, the need for more space and greater control over technology became apparent. In 1974, Cifarelli inaugurated a new factory in Strada Oriolo, Voghera—the first core of the current facility. Concurrently, the company made the strategic decision to begin producing its own mist sprayer engines, with the first model, the C7, still in use today after numerous improvements. This move allowed the company to stop producing tractor mist sprayers and concentrate on its specialization: high-quality, small-scale portable equipment. By 1977, the company already had a strong vocation for export, with shipments to France, England, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Syria, Malta, Salvador, Venezuela, Ghana, Portugal, and other countries. Embracing technological advancement early on, Cifarelli implemented its first integrated IT system for business management (an IBM System/34, a precursor to modern ERPs) in 1981.

The following decades were marked by continued expansion, diversification, and vertical integration. In 1985, a second factory warehouse was inaugurated to support the new production of brush-cutters powered by a new 32 cc engine. To increase production quality and flexibility, an in-house plastics department was established in 1988 for producing all injection-molded components. After deciding to end the brush-cutter line in 1992, the company pivoted, putting the first version of its V77 vacuums, designed for chestnut harvesting, into production in 1994. In 1996, with increasing production volumes, a mechanical machining department with numerical control (CNC) machines was established, allowing for greater quality control over key components like engine crankcases. This capability was crucial for the 1998 development of the SC62 shaker, a machine that represented a radical change from its competitors by introducing completely new elements, such as handles with an anti-vibration system. The SC62 earned Cifarelli the prestigious “EIMA Technical Innovation” award and established the company as the benchmark for the olive shaker market. By 2004, the shaker was fitted with an engine specifically designed by Cifarelli: the C5 50 cc engine.

Cifarelli's drive for innovation continued into the new millennium. The production of a silenced blower began in 2006, which also won an “EIMA Technical Innovation” award thanks to the advanced solutions adopted to lower noise levels. During this period, the company expanded again, opening a new production area of about 2,000 square meters. In 2012, the 1200 series was launched, representing a complete renewal of the range with new mist sprayers, blowers, and vacuums, with the M1200 mist sprayer winning yet another “EIMA Technical Innovation” award.

Recent years have been characterized by significant corporate evolution and strategic investments. In 2016, the Cifarelli family signed an agreement with Emak S.p.A. for the sale of 30% of its shares. The company sadly endured the loss of its founders, Mrs. Rita in 2018 and Mr. Raffaele (Aldo) Cifarelli in 2020. In their honor, their family and dedicated team continued to work for the company's success. This culminated in 2020 when the Cifarelli family repurchased all company shares from Emak S.p.A., returning to 100% ownership and providing, with renewed enthusiasm, for the autonomous development of Cifarelli S.p.A. and its products. This new era has seen the introduction of battery-powered products like electronic olive harvesters (2018) and a hand blower (2019); the global relaunch of the L3Evo atomizer (2021); the opening of a Spanish branch in Malaga (2021); the launch of a new compact blower, the BL2200 (2022); and in 2023, a return to the company's roots with the presentation of a new brushcutter, alongside strategic investments in two start-ups (Nantoo and AidaMask) and the purchase of a share in PMG Taral, a Turkish company.

Cifarelli Today: A Global Leader in Specialized Equipment

Today, Cifarelli's mission is innovation. Its products are subject to a continuous process of improvement, thanks to sustained investments in the R&D sector, the quality and motivation of the staff involved in product development, and collaboration with various research centers, including the CNR (Italy's National Research Council). Cifarelli machines are therefore constantly evolving, with innovations often protected by patents, averaging about two new patents per year. The company's development is primarily directed abroad, with Cifarelli machines distributed in over 80 countries worldwide, reaching all continents, and with exports accounting for 95% of its turnover. Its users are almost always professionals or advanced users who demand top-performance machines. Distribution is managed through a selected distributor in each country and a specialized network of retailers in Italy, a strategy aimed at offering professionals an optimal after-sales service, which is why Cifarelli chooses not to sell products directly to the public or online. The company's enduring strengths have always been its product quality and flexibility. The size and organization of the company allow for quick decision-making and a prompt, effective response to customer needs. The parts for its machines are produced with Cifarelli's own moulds and according to its specifications by specialized suppliers, with a production capacity exceeding 300 machines a day in addition to spare parts. The company operates in a modern, fully air-conditioned facility of over 7,000 square meters, with a team of over 50 people who work with passion and dedication. Cifarelli is always ready to invest in tools that simplify the work of its employees, and the era of Industry 4.0 did not take it by surprise; having applied the best available technologies and computerization of processes since 1981, this forward-thinking approach remains one of its greatest strengths.
