"With a rich history in
engineering that began 161 years ago, the legacy of the Deutz tractor traces
its origins to Nicolaus August Otto, who founded the Motorenfabrik N.A. Otto
& Cie. in 1864. Shortly after its establishment, which would later become
Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD), Otto and his partner Eugene Langen invented
the first four-stroke spark-combustion engine. These early engines were often
used as horse-drawn generators to power threshers and hay balers. The
company's first mass-produced tractor, the DEUTZ MTH 222, was launched in
1927, and in 1936, they unveiled the DEUTZ 11 Series, a landmark achievement
that brought agricultural mechanization within reach of small farms for the
first time. During World War II, the Deutz Company notably
converted its water-cooled engines into air-cooled ones to enhance the
dependability of military equipment. This air-cooled engine technology
remained a hallmark of the brand until the 1990s. A pivotal moment occurred in 1968 when the
Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD) group acquired FAHR, a leading agricultural
equipment company known for its expertise in harvesting machinery—having
presented its first self-propelled combine harvester in 1952. Following this
acquisition, the company was re-branded as Deutz-Fahr, combining the
strengths of both historic entities. Ever since, DEUTZ-FAHR has continued to excel in
quality and innovation with countless other contributions to the industry.
These include the development of the first “clear view” tractor with
panoramic cabs, the market’s first suspended front axle, and a game-changing
technological innovation in 2001 with the Agrotron TTV, its first tractor
equipped with a continuously variable transmission. Many years have passed since the launch of their
first mass-produced tractors, but even today, the DEUTZ-FAHR name still fires
the imagination of farmers all over the world." |
