Brief Description: The story of Elysee began with a love of nature.
With a background in agriculture and a degree in physics, founder Antonis
Protopapas had an idea to start a business focused on growing the best
flowers in the Middle East. It was through this venture that the need to
understand irrigation became a priority. Back in the 1970s, the new art of
irrigation was on the rise, and this know-how was brought in to help Elysee
grow world-class flowers. With this newly acquired knowledge of irrigation and
its associated needs, the next logical step was to move into irrigation
trading, first with pipe fittings and then into manufacturing them. Thus, on
April 16, 1979, Elysee Irrigation was founded. The first export activities
began as early as 1980, serving the nearby markets of the Middle East, an
area which at the time was only beginning to utilize advanced irrigation
techniques. The first production facility was co-located with
the farming and flower preparation operations for the international markets.
These were exciting times where exploration of the then-unknown field of
plastic manufacturing was a hard but rewarding challenge for the young
company. This early success led to fast growth which demanded a dedicated
industrial space. In 1989, the current site in the Ergates Industrial Area
was established. The product range at the time comprised a substantial series
of drippers and sprinklers as well as an extensive range of compression
fittings, saddles, and threaded fittings. Recognizing that a piping system is
never complete without a pipe, a Polyethylene pipe manufacturing unit was
established at the Ergates site in 1991. With this addition, Elysee could now
offer a full solution for water supply as well. The success of this venture
then led to the extension of the range into PVC pipe manufacturing, marking
the company's entry into the construction and infrastructure world. An extensive range of products meant that the
quality control division had to be formally established, a step that led to
the certification of the company with the ISO9001 standard as early as 1998.
In 2001, a new office building was erected to host the main offices of the
company, which until then were located in central Nicosia, a move that
optimized operations and prepared for the next stage of expansion. The first
major recognition of Elysee's international activity came with the Special
Export Award for the year 2002. That same year, a new function was born
within Elysee: the Research and Development department, created to lead the
advancement of technology and the continuous improvement of the product
range. Elysee was now a complete and modern company,
investing significantly in the international market. The years that followed
saw a major expansion in global reach and market coverage, with Elysee
products now found on all 5 continents and in a steadily growing number of
countries. A series of four further Export Awards (in 2003, 2008, 2012, and
2016) are a testament to this global success. Our international network of
selected partners currently spans 65 markets where Elysee is active in four
key sectors: Water Supply, Irrigation, Infrastructure, and Energy. To ensure
a direct and rapid response to the changing needs of the global market,
Elysee has further expanded its operations by establishing three distribution
centers in Austria, Russia, and Lebanon. |
