With a rich and extensive history
spanning 158 years, the company now known as Frielinghaus GmbH was founded in
1867 when Carl Theodor Frielinghaus established his business as a sheep shear
smith. A significant expansion of the product range occurred in 1905 with the
addition of harvester parts. The company's modern era began to take shape in
1942 when Wilhelm Asbeck became the company manager. This was followed by a
move to a new, more modern, and better-organized building in 1966. The
family-led nature of the business continued in 1975 when Wilhelm Asbeck’s
daughter, Elke von der Becke, joined as a partner, and her husband, Derk von
der Becke, was appointed as a second managing director. The company underwent a series of strategic
expansions and technological upgrades. In 1976, a new press shop was
constructed, replacing the old grinding shop and warehouse with a two-story
production hall. Wolfgang Braun joined the company as a managing director and
partner in 1980, and further growth continued with the construction of a
second production hall and a new office building in 1982, followed by a
warehouse for input stock in 1984. Frielinghaus expanded its capabilities in
1991 by purchasing the blade production department from C.W. Haas in
Remscheid. This was followed by key acquisitions, including the bankrupt
company Busatis in Hückeswagen in 1993 (in partnership with ESM), and jointly
acquiring the bankrupt company Rasspe in Solingen in 1999. In 1994, a new
hall was constructed, and the toolmaking shop was expanded. The new millennium brought further changes and
focus. A new steel hall was built in 2002, freeing up other buildings for use
as production areas. In 2003, when competitor KWT in Herbede discontinued
blade production, Frielinghaus acquired the company’s few modern machines. A
strategic shift occurred in 2006 when Frielinghaus transferred its shares in
the Rasspe business due to a lack of prospects for economic success. A change
in leadership came in 2007 with Martin Grob becoming CEO. Despite the economic
crisis, the company continued to invest, tearing down its original building
to construct a new production hall and warehouse in 2010. Recent years have seen continued strategic
investments and recognition. In 2014, Härtetechnik Steinbach KG in Wuppertal
became a 100 percent subsidiary of Frielinghaus GmbH. The facilities were
further enhanced in 2018 with the construction of an extension to the
grinding shop and special coating shop, in addition to new staff facilities.
A major honor was received in 2020 when Frielinghaus was recognized by CLAAS
as its “Supplier of the Year 2019. Total Winner!”. Most recently, in 2023,
the company invested in a 630-ton automatic stamping machine and purchased
plots and halls from the former Busch Stanztechnik in Gevelsberg, to which
its press shop was subsequently relocated. |
