The story of K-Rain Manufacturing
began with a real rocket scientist. Founder Carl Kah Jr., a chemical engineer
with experience in developing reusable rocket technology at Pratt &
Whitney, turned his inventive focus to his own landscape irrigation system.
From the lathe in his garage, he designed and machined a revolutionary valve
that cycled from zone to zone, eliminating the need for multiple valves and
earning his first patent in 1966. By 1970, he invented and patented
"Modulated Pressure Control," a device that could control an entire
golf course irrigation system without wires or tubes. The sale of that patent
provided the capital to formally incorporate K-Rain Manufacturing in
1972. The company's growth has been a multi-generational
family endeavor. Carl's son, Chip, joined the company in 1986 and led the
development and growth of indexing valves for the wastewater disposal
industry. Together, Carl and Chip introduced the first of many patented gear
drive rotors in 1991. The business expanded into the retail market in 1995,
the same year Carl's daughters, Gretchen (leading west coast sales) and
Deborah (managing intellectual property and human resources), joined the
company. In 2016, with the arrival of Chip’s sons, Christopher and Trevor,
K-Rain proudly became a third-generation company. For over 50 years, K-Rain has built its success on
hard work, teamwork, and a relentless spirit where every detail matters. This
journey, from a rocket scientist's garage to a global enterprise, reflects a
deep commitment to engineering reliable and eco-conscious irrigation
products. |
