The story of Cobra America is a trans-Atlantic saga
of reinvention, a journey that began not with rubber, but with thread. It
traces its roots back to the late 19th century in the North of France, where
the industrial group DEPREUX was established as a textile manufacturer. For
decades, they produced clothing and fabric, but the aftermath of World War II
brought a pivotal shift. Seeking to diversify, DEPREUX entered the industrial
age by weaving the heavy-duty fabric carcasses used for conveyor belts. At the very heart of this evolution was a
transformation from a textile mill into a global conveyor powerhouse. In
1992, following a strategic realignment by German and French shareholders,
the group was rebranded as the COBRA GROUP, establishing its headquarters in
Luxeuil les Bains, France. As the new millennium broke, the company set its
sights on global expansion, opening an office in Poland and, crucially,
making its move across the Atlantic. This is a story of the American dream starting
small. In 2001, Cobra America was born with a single salesperson in the
eastern United States, selling belting and accessories "door to
door." From these humble, boot-strap beginnings, the company found a
home in Bristol, Tennessee. The growth was rapid and physical: moving from a
small office on Volunteer Parkway in 2004 to a consolidated facility on
Industrial Drive in 2005, and finally, to their current, expansive
headquarters on Boswell Drive in 2012. This massive facility, with its increased indoor
warehouse capacity and large outdoor storage yard, allowed Cobra America to
transform from a local vendor into a national force. This is a story of
becoming a true coast-to-coast partner. By 2019, the company expanded its
footprint to the other side of the country, opening a location in
Bakersfield, California, to better serve customers in the western states. Today, the story of Cobra America is one of a bright
future built on a century of heritage. It is the legacy of a French textile
weaver that evolved into a trusted American partner, delivering the
inventory, service, and expertise needed to keep the mines and industries of
the United States moving forward. |
