The story of Continental Hydraulics is a tale of evolution, a journey that began in 1928 not with fluid power, but with steel and saws. It started in Minneapolis as Continental Machines Specialty Inc., a shop dedicated to special tooling and band saws. But the seeds of the future were sown in 1940, when they designed their first hydraulic component—a combination valve for surface grinders—forever changing the company's trajectory.

    At the very heart of their identity is a shift from mechanical to hydraulic mastery. By 1955, production began on their first 7 GPM vane pump. This success led to the formal establishment of Continental Hydraulics in 1962, a dedicated entity with its own engineering and sales force. Initially focused on powering the parent company's band saws, the business quickly outgrew its origins. Through the 70s and 80s, the narrative expanded rapidly as they introduced directional valves, proportional valves, and the PVR and HPV pumps, finding success in both industrial and mobile markets.

    This is a story of global integration and modernization. In 2011, a new chapter began when Continental was acquired by the Duplomatic Motion Solutions Group of Italy. This fusion of American manufacturing and Italian engineering brought a surge of investment in testing and machining, and made the full line of Duplomatic valves available under the Continental brand. The momentum continued in 2019 with the acquisition of Hydreco, expanding their reach into the rugged mobile sectors of mining, construction, and defense.

    Today, operating from a 114,000-square-foot facility in Shakopee, Minnesota, the story of Continental Hydraulics is one of a 60-year veteran that has never stopped moving.
