It started as the Erie Steel Construction Company, founded by G.H. Strayer with nothing more than a nine-man crew and a one-story brick building. In those early days, they were the iron backbone of the city, erecting the steel work for commercial, industrial, and public buildings throughout the area.

When World War II engulfed the globe, the company pivoted to support the war effort, building over 100 overhead electric traveling cranes and thousands of clamshell and dragline buckets for the Army and Navy. Even after the war, they continued to defend the homeland by constructing radar towers across the United States.
