The story of the Versatran Retriever started in 2002
when Joe Simons recognized a clear need in the market: an easier and much
more efficient way to load and transport heavy equipment. To solve this, he
developed an innovative air-operated, curved platform and ramp system. This
new design completely changed the game, offering operators greater hauling
capacity, faster cycle times, and the lowest deck height in the entire
industry. Even better, the system was designed to operate without keeping the
truck idling, which saved fuel, cut down on emissions, and still perfectly
handled tough customer delivery requirements. Fast forward to November 2019, and Versatran took a
massive step forward when it was acquired by Metalcraft of Mayville. Joining
a powerhouse family of brands—which includes massive contract manufacturing
operations and Scag Power Equipment—gave Versatran a rock-solid foundation
and the world-class resources needed to fuel its future growth. Today, these
highly efficient Retriever systems are proudly manufactured in Beaver Dam,
Wisconsin, and are backed by a robust North American dealer network ready to
