Brief Description: The Bossini company of Carpenedolo, Italy, has its
origins deeply rooted in the land, a connection that for four generations and
now a century, since 1925, has driven the Bossini family's eponymous
enterprise. It all began when Domenico Bossini, the founder, devoted himself
to his craft in a small workshop in the town center, where he skillfully
built and repaired a wide array of items. The Second World War marked a pivotal period,
shaping the company's future focus. It was in Domenico's workshop that German
forces stopped to have their trailers adjusted and repaired. Through this,
Domenico discovered and learned new construction technologies. Applying these
learned techniques to the trailers he commonly worked on was a natural step,
and observing the farmers' struggles with transporting slurry, he conceived
an ingenious idea: "if you take a barrel, the biggest, and I fix it on a
trailer, and if maybe I add a pump for easy loading and unloading..."
Thus, the first functional, very specific slurry spreader was born in his
shop. The workshop soon transformed into a burgeoning company, with
Domenico's sons, Antonio (born in 1917) and Pietro (born in 1925), joining
the efforts. The idea for slurry spreaders worked, and soon the countryside
saw an increasing number of these machines transporting slurry, alongside
trailers used for more generic materials. The war's end brought different paths
for the brothers: Antonio was taken prisoner, while Pietro, thanks to his
mechanical aptitude, was sent to the "Brescia Papa Station" as a
repairer. This experience exposed him to a vast amount of transport material,
allowing him to gain even more expertise. After the war, Pietro ingeniously
recovered and reused sound components from war-era trailers, leading to
further improvements in their agricultural machinery. Axles and rubber tires,
some retrieved from airplanes, were then repurposed, a crucial innovation as
the advent of tractors and increased towing speeds made old wooden and iron
wheels impractical due to their high resistance. The 1950s saw the production of manure spreaders,
including an early model with a rear-spreading system, which was later
equipped with a system that allowed for spreading from the front and side.
This particular variant was patented and became almost a signature feature of
the company. As the business consolidated, Antonio, alongside his son Gianni,
primarily oversaw production, leaving Pietro to manage the dealership and
sales aspects. The company also began actively participating in agricultural
fairs, starting with those organized locally and progressing to larger events
in Lonato and Calvisano. This era was also influenced by Bartolomeo (known as
"Uncle teacher"), a primary school teacher and the artistic soul of
the family, who decorated and refined the machines for fair participation and
provided opportunities for many of his pupils to learn the trade in the
workshop. A new generation stepped in when Rino (born in
1954), after graduating from mechanical school, joined the company in
1975—marking 50 years of his involvement—followed by his brother Rodolfo
(born in 1960). It was during these years that the company moved from its
original shed in the countryside to its present, significantly larger
location, which has since expanded from an initial 10,000 m² to now occupy
more than 30,000 m². The Bossini company of Carpenedolo has always been in
search of innovation in agricultural work, embarking on an evolutionary
process that transformed early wooden trailers into, in turn, slurry
spreaders, manure spreaders, and then finally, robust tipping trailers, often
called “dumpers.” The Bossini company believes that long journeys are
made in small, deliberate steps, one after another, always pointing straight
towards success. Throughout its history, the company has evolved in tandem
with the farms of its customers, ensuring that neither outpaced the other. It
is almost as if the earth itself, from which the Bossini family draws its
origins and its strength, has always guided them in maintaining a perfect
balance between tradition and progress. |
