Global heavy machinery empires rarely begin with
world domination in mind; they usually start by fixing a highly specific,
local problem. In August of 1971, Alfred Kinshofer opened a modest
manufacturing business in Miesbach, Bavaria. In its earliest days, KINSHOFER
Maschinenbau Miesbach wasn't building the world's most advanced excavator
attachments. Instead, Alfred and his team were focused on the quiet
essentials of local industry: bridge bearings, handrails, and lifting devices
for brick factories. But true engineers never stop looking for a more
efficient way to move heavy materials. By 1973, that drive led to the
development of the company’s first brick stack grapple, followed rapidly by
pallet forks and clamshell buckets. The local market response was explosive.
Within just a few years, KINSHOFER completely outgrew its original factory,
forcing the construction of entirely new production halls. By 1979, they had
engineered a massive mechanical breakthrough: the company’s first rotator
with 360-degree endless rotation. With that innovation, they stopped being a
local parts supplier and officially became a dominant force in gripping and
handling technology. As the 1980s and 90s unfolded, KINSHOFER
aggressively crossed borders. They established footholds in the UK and
France, moved into a massive new production facility in Marienstein, and
eventually leapt across the Atlantic in 2000 by acquiring Canada's Liftall to
form KINSHOFER North America. In 2003, their relentless focus on engineering
yielded the patented HPXdrive—a revolutionary cylinderless mechanism that
earned them international design awards and cemented their reputation as
top-tier innovators. What followed over the next two decades was nothing
short of an industrial masterclass in strategic expansion. Operating under
the Swedish Lifco AB umbrella since 2007, KINSHOFER transformed from a single
German manufacturer into a sprawling, global syndicate of specialized
heavy-duty brands. They systematically acquired the absolute best in the
business to build an unstoppable arsenal of tools. They bought Demarec and Hammer for brutal demolition
power. They acquired Auger Torque to dominate earth drilling and trenching.
They folded in Doherty and Solesbee's to perfect quick couplers and
heavy-duty excavator attachments. From the Italian precision of Cangini Benne
and Trevi Benne to the specialized forestry and handling tech of GMT
Equipment and Eurosteel in 2024, KINSHOFER built an ecosystem where no job is
too tough and no machine is left unequipped. Today, operating out of their headquarters in
Holzkirchen and championing universal standards like the Open-S Alliance,
KINSHOFER is no longer just a company named after its founder. It is a global
standard. They provide the mechanical fists, jaws, and drills that allow
heavy machinery to tear down, dig deep, and build up the modern world. |
